Dinosaur Pile-Up - Growing Pains
After a grueling 18 months of hard work, Dinosaur Pile-Up are finally ready to unleash their debut album to the world. After some time being dubbed ‘Leeds Best Kept Secret,’ the threesome are now the most talked about guitar band in recent years. With the release of debut single ‘My Rock’n’Roll,’ the hype was carved out and whispers began to form of a ‘grunge revival’ as they became one of the UK’s hottest-tipped acts. With the fan base growing, singer/guitarist Matt Bigland knew DP-U’s debut had to be perfect. And perfect is definitely one way of describing it.
Growing Pains certainly reflects the ‘grunge revival’ label that follows DP-U around and rightly so. Plenty of guitar fuzz and thundering drums fuels tracks like ‘Hey Man’ and recent single ‘Mona Lisa,’ while Bigland still blends in the ‘sing-a-long’ pop on ‘Maybe It’s You’ and ‘Never That Together.’ After forty minutes of raucousness, a moment of quiet strips Growing Pains down to an acoustic guitar while Bigland softly asks, ‘Hey you, are you tired of being alone?’ as the quietness gradually builds back to the roaring passion of his shouts and screams.
It’s impressive enough how Bigland spent every waking hour recording an album that is completely composed and played by himself but to make a debut album this powerful and gained this much attention before being released is beyond the brain can handle. It’s been a long journey for Dinosaur Pile-Up, but the hard work is paying off.
